History & Pastors

Philadelphia’s journey began when the Ontario Conference Ministerial Secretary Dr. Fitzroy Maitland, invited Evangelist Fitz Henry to join fellow soldiers in warring against the enemy for souls in Scarborough. Under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, he led out in “The King Is Coming” crusade; and after five weeks of dynamic and soul-searching preaching, more than 300 precious souls were baptised, most of whom went to the participating churches. Of that number, 120 of them remained to form the Philadelphia Company.

The Ontario Conference appointed Dr. Clarence Baptiste to lead the Philadelphia Company and they conducted their first Sabbath meeting on November 7, 1992 at Seneca College.  This was just a temporary home, and so the Philadelphia Company journeyed on to Wilmar Heights United Church at 963 Pharmacy Avenue.  Many successful evangelistic series and outreach programmes were undertaken throughout the years by various ministers.  As God continued to lead this growing congregation, we relocated to the Church of St. Andrew located at 2333 Victoria Park Avenue in February 1993.  Then, marching on through Scarborough, our journey took us to Grace Reform Christian Church located at 25 Channel Nine Court.

There, in the home of Grace Reform Christian Church, the brethren gladly came together for worship, fellowship and service in the community. On August 1, 1993 the Philadelphia Company was officially recognized by conference administrators and the ministerial secretary as a full-fledged church. As numerical and spiritual growth continued, the members could see the hand of our awesome God moving within their midst.

The Phillie family sojourned at 25 Channel Nine Court until December 17, 2011.  After years of sacrifice, searching and dedicated service we were able to purchase our new home, the “Promised Land” at 65 Grand Marshall Drive, Scarborough.  God has been truly good to the Phillie family.  He has been our guide and He continue to pour out His Shekinah glory on us.
